Radio Times –la revista semanal de programación de radio y televisión perteneciente a la BBC– ha puesto en marcha una encuesta para conocer cuál es la mejor frase del cine o, al menos, descubrir cuál es la más popular del Reino Unido.

Para ello, la guía de programación elaboró una lista de 50 citas que incluye la introducción inmortalizada de Sean Connery de Dr. No (“Bond. James Bond”), la línea más convincente de Marlon Brando de The Godfather (“I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse” / “Le haré una oferta que no podrá rechazar”), y la súplica romántica de Julia Roberts a Hugh Grant en Notting Hill (“I'm also just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her” / “Yo también soy sólo una chica de pie enfrente de un chico pidiéndole que la ame”).

Barry Norman, el locutor y crítico de cine, dijo, al momento de presentar la lista:

Para mí, el poder de las palabras en las películas es tan grande como la de las imágenes visuales y ayuda a plasmar la película en mi memoria.  Algunas líneas tienen un potente efecto sobre mí. A veces las mejores líneas de las películas se introducen en nuestro lenguaje cotidiano; en las conversaciones diarias, llegamos a citarlas, sin recordar exactamente de dónde vienen.
